On November 13, 2002, an old tanker without adequate safety measures, traveling from Latvia to Gibraltar, spilled its entire cargo on the Galician coast, causing one of the largest environmental disasters. The fuel wreaked havoc on the natural habitat of the area. Thousands of volunteers came from all parts of the world to help clean up the coast
